There are hereditary diseases among retinal diseases and they are not uncommon in clinical practice, such as primary retinitis pigmentosa. In addition to these diseases, there are many other types of hereditary diseases, such as pulselessness, dystrophy, and degenerative-type diseases, that are genetically related. Some optic neuropathies are also genetically related, the more common ones being Leber’s disease, which is more common in boys. Some atrophic diseases are also related to heredity, such as high myopia, which is actually related to heredity. In particular, patients with early onset of myopia, called pathological myopia, are also genetically related. Especially if the patient’s parents or grandparents have high myopia in their generation, patients with high myopia can ask their parents, or the next generation, if they have similar conditions. So it is not uncommon for diseases of the retina, optic nerve, and even other parts of the eye to be related to heredity.
