The pain caused by a bunion is centered in the following areas:1. Pain in the area of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Pain in this area is most common, and once there is a callus on the inside of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, there will also be pain on the inside of the joint.2. There may be pain on both sides of the nail of the first toe. This is because bunion may cause onychomycosis on both sides of the nail of the first toe, and once this type of disease occurs, it will also cause pain in this area.3. There may be pain on the dorsal side of the second and third toes. Because if the bunion is serious, it will make the first toe drill under the second and third toes, after which the dorsal side of the second and third toes will often rub against the inner side of the shoes, which may produce pain. If a patient experiences pain in the above areas, he or she should go to an orthopedic clinic as soon as possible for appropriate treatment.
