If metronidazole is taken after drinking alcohol, it can cause a drunken-like reaction of nausea and vomiting, i.e. disulfiram-like reaction. If the reaction is mild, the discharge of alcohol can be accelerated by drinking more water; if the reaction is severe, symptomatic treatment with rehydration and infusion of naloxone injection for treatment is needed at the hospital, so drinking alcohol should be prohibited during taking the drug. If you have already consumed alcohol, do not take any more drugs, especially metronidazole, cephalosporins and nitrofurans. It is also important to note that you should not drink alcohol or take alcohol-containing drugs or beverages for a week before or after taking such drugs, or even take alcohol baths when you have a fever.
