Human evolution and hypertension

High blood pressure and upright walking Human beings in the long-term evolutionary process (from crawling to upright walking) hypertensive population is increasing, scientists have conducted in-depth studies they have studied this in depth, pointing out that upright may be the main cause of hypertension. In abiotic nature, fluid always flows from above to below due to the earth’s gravitational field. In animals, due to the role of the heart and other regulatory organs, blood can be retrograde to the direction of gravity, thus ensuring that all parts of the body, first of all the brain to get an adequate blood supply. When a person is lying down, the heart can spurt out up to about 5 liters of blood per minute. When changing from horizontal to upright, 79% of the blood volume is located below the heart, which makes it difficult for the blood to return to the heart. As a result, the volume of blood ejected from the heart is reduced by 30-40%, to only 2.5-3 liters per minute. When the volume of blood ejected from the heart is less than the capacity of the blood vessels, the arterial pressure drops (hypotension), leaving insufficient blood supply to the head and, in severe cases, the risk of loss of consciousness. To compensate for the drop in the amount of blood ejected from the heart, the nervous and hormonal systems cause the blood vessels to contract and narrow, forcing the volume of the arterial system to decrease, thus restoring the balance between the amount of blood ejected from the heart and the volume of the arteries. At the same time, the arterial blood pressure is increased so that the normal supply of blood to the head and other organs is ensured. In quadrupeds, 70% of the blood is located above the heart, and blood can easily flow back to the heart without relying on vasoconstriction to raise blood pressure, thus avoiding the doom of hypertension. Obviously, in human life, it is the upright posture prompted the arterial blood vessels often contract to raise blood pressure, over time, humans are prone to hypertension. Hypertension and mental overstrain Although walking upright is the result of millions of years of human progress, although a variety of human physiological functions and organs have largely adapted to this, but with the rapid development of science and technology, modern people are in a more stressful living environment, rest and sleep time is less and less, while standing, sitting, walking and other active work related to upright posture time has been extended. This means: the time of gravitational effects on the organism when upright has increased vigorously. From an evolutionary point of view, in this short period of decades or one or two hundred years, the human cardiovascular system has not evolved fast enough to undergo adaptive changes and is thus susceptible to hypertensive disease. Therefore, we recommend hypertensive patients to perform some low gravity relaxation exercises such as tai chi, qigong, slow walking, yoga, etc. You can also massage Fengchi point (human Fengchi point is located in the collar, when under the occipital bone, the depression between the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the upper end of the oblique muscle), Quchi point (point is located in the lateral end of the transverse elbow line, flexing the elbow) by yourself.
