How long can I drink alcohol after drinking metronidazole

It is recommended to take metronidazole for at least 20 hours before drinking small amounts of alcohol. Metronidazole is mainly used to treat or prevent diseases caused by anaerobic bacterial infections, common diseases like abdominal, gastrointestinal, and germline anaerobic infections are often treated with metronidazole. Alcohol should not be consumed during treatment with metronidazole, as various adverse effects may occur. Because it inhibits the metabolism of alcohol, patients may experience nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and in severe cases, life-threatening conditions. Patients are clinically advised to abstain from alcohol while taking metronidazole treatment and not to consume alcohol within 12 hours after taking the drug.
