Metronidazole is mainly used to treat or prevent diseases caused by anaerobic bacterial infections, common diseases like abdominal, gastrointestinal, and germline anaerobic infections are often treated with metronidazole. Alcohol should not be consumed during treatment with metronidazole, as various adverse effects may occur. Because it inhibits the metabolism of alcohol, patients may experience nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and in severe cases, life-threatening conditions. Patients are clinically advised to abstain from alcohol while taking metronidazole treatment and not to consume alcohol within 12 hours after taking the drug. There is a process of treatment with metronidazole, not just one day of medication, and it is recommended to abstain from alcohol throughout the treatment period.
