High ribs on one side and low ribs on the other side are usually caused by development, trauma, mediastinal tumor and other factors.
1. If there is no clear history of trauma, the first thing to consider is whether it is caused by development, if there is scoliosis or thoracic developmental deformity, it will lead to the symptom of one side of the rib cage being high and the other side being low.
2. If there is a clear history of trauma, one side of the rib cage is high and the other side is low, which is mostly considered to be caused by trauma leading to rib fracture, usually accompanied by obvious pain and tenderness at the ribs, edema of local tissues, and the pain will be aggravated with the movement of breathing, and the abnormal movement of one to several ribs can be seen on examination, and the fracture line can be seen on the imaging.
3. When there is a huge tumor in the mediastinum, because the tumor occupies the position, one side of the thoracic cavity can be significantly protruded, so that the opposite side of the thoracic cavity is relatively concave, which is manifested as one side of the ribs is high and the other side is low.
If one side of the rib cage is high and the other side is low, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instruction for treatment.
