There is no specific time frame for wearing a lap band after open debulking of a leiomyosarcoma, and it depends on the degree of recovery of the muscles and the wound. Laparotomy refers to the opening of the abdominal cavity to completely expose the growth area of the fibroid, so that the fibroid can be quickly removed through surgical excision, which can have a radical effect. Since the abdominal surgery is a large-scale operation and requires separation of the abdominal wall, muscle and tendon layers, a lap band is usually worn after the operation to promote wound immobilization. Depending on the physical condition of each female patient and the degree of postoperative recovery, the wearing time of the lap band is not exactly the same. If the wound is healing well and there is no obvious muscle laxity or prolapse, the band should be worn for about one month. If the wound heals slowly or if the muscle layer is not fully anastomosed with the peritoneum, the lap band should be worn for three months or even longer. Women who choose to undergo open abdominal myomectomy need to wear the lap band properly under the guidance of the doctor.
