Artificial insemination (AI) is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in which sperm is injected into a woman’s reproductive tract in a non-coital way to fertilize her. Artificial insemination includes artificial insemination by husband’s semen and artificial insemination by donor’s semen, in which the source of semen for artificial insemination by donor’s semen is provided and managed by a sperm bank (which needs to be accredited by the National Health and Wellness Commission). The sites of artificial insemination include the uterine cavity, vagina, fallopian tubes, cervical tubes and fallopian tubes. Artificial insemination is mainly suitable for infertile (fertile) couples with normally developing follicles, a normal range of motile sperm counts, a structurally sound female reproductive tract, and at least one open fallopian tube. In case of need or discomfort, it is recommended to seek medical advice and consultation.
