How long does it usually take for the gastric mucosa to recover

How long it takes to recover from gastric mucosal injury generally depends on the severity of the gastric mucosal injury, whether it is acute or chronic, and whether the causative factors are removed. Acute gastric mucosal lesions, such as alcohol-induced gastric mucosal damage, can be fully recovered in about 3-5 days for most patients if they stop drinking alcohol and apply medication regularly, and gastroscopy will not find any problems. However, chronic gastritis, with H. pylori infection, etc., if the patient forms a peptic ulcer, the gastric mucosa may be slower to repair, such as duodenal ulcer, which takes about 4-6 weeks to heal; gastric ulcer requires regular medication and can be healed in about 6-8 weeks. In addition, the triggering factors that cause gastric ulcers should be removed, such as to eradicate Helicobacter pylori and stop using some NSAIDs. Patients with gastric mucosal damage should pay attention to regular diet and avoid spicy and stimulating foods to facilitate early recovery.
