Late stage colon cancer can show symptoms such as abdominal pain, anemia, liver enlargement, etc. Treatment for late stage colon cancer includes general treatment, drug treatment, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
1. Clinical manifestations of advanced colon cancer
(1) Right half colon cancer: abdominal pain in the right lower abdomen, anemia, abdominal mass, constipation, diarrhea and so on.
(2) Left colon cancer: mucous blood stool or fresh blood stool, abdominal pain, left lower abdominal mass.
(3) Systemic manifestations: including enlarged liver, jaundice, ascites, enlarged supraclavicular lymph nodes, emaciation and weakness, generalized weakness.
2. Treatment for advanced stage of colon cancer
(1) General treatment: including correcting malnutrition to ensure intake of calories, proteins and other nutrients; using drugs such as celecoxib and morphine to inhibit cancer pain, but analgesia needs to be cautious so as not to cover up the condition.
(2) Drug therapy: target drugs such as cetuximab and bevacizumab can be used according to the results of genetic testing.
(3) Surgery: Some advanced colon cancers, such as concurrent liver metastasis, can be treated by surgery. For cases that cannot be resected or conditions do not allow resection, and at the same time there are obstruction and bleeding, fistula or palliative surgery can be considered to relieve obstruction or bleeding.
(4) Radiotherapy: radiotherapy is mainly for radiation irradiation, and chemotherapy is mainly for the application of 5-fluorouracil and other drugs. According to the condition and the patient’s wish, a comprehensive decision can be made whether or not to carry out radiotherapy.
