Stem cell therapy cannot completely cure ankylosing spondylitis, but it can help alleviate the symptoms and control the progression of the disease.
Ankylosing spondylitis is an autoimmune disease that mainly involves the middle-axis joints, and can cause spinal ankylosis and cause different degrees of bone, muscle, lung and eye lesions, and is obviously related to HLA-B27 positivity, and at present, there is no cure for ankylosing spondylitis.
The treatment of ankylosing spondylitis is based on drug therapy, and the commonly used types of drugs include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as etoricoxib; immunosuppressants, such as luzosulfapyridine; and biological agents, such as adalimumab.
Stem cell therapy can relieve pain symptoms and significantly reduce activity index scores in patients with ankylosing spondylitis, but it is not currently used as a first-line treatment for ankylosing spondylitis.
It is recommended that patients with ankylosing spondylitis go to the rheumatology and immunology department of a regular hospital and receive standardized diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of a doctor according to the patient’s specific situation.
