Endoscopic transnasal approach for the treatment of adenoid hypertrophy in children

Adenoid hypertrophy is a common disease in children and is the main cause of nasal obstruction, sleep breathing disorder, sinusitis and eustachian tube dysfunction in children. Li Xuezhong, Department of Otolaryngology, Qilu Hospital, Shandong University
At present, adenoid hypertrophy is mainly treated surgically, and the traditional surgical method is adenoid scraping, which is gradually abandoned by clinicians because of its rough surgical method and the difficulty in controlling the depth of scraping due to the fact that scraping under non-direct vision relies entirely on manual sensation, while the adenoids in the posterior nostril area and the eustachian tube area are not treated properly, which leads to the difficulty in relieving the symptoms in the nose and ear.
After decades of practice, I have carried out hundreds of endoscopically guided adenoidectomies through the transnasal approach and the transoral approach, with good results.

On the second day after surgery, the child can use nasal rinses such as Pitocin or Strema, and if he has nasal symptoms before surgery
If the child has nasal symptoms before surgery, nasal spray hormone can be used.
