The choice of medication for dry eye treatment is based on a comprehensive assessment of the severity of the dry eye condition. An appropriate treatment plan can be given by visiting an ophthalmologist for an OSS (ocular surface staining) score as well as an OSDI (ocular discomfort frequency) score. For milder cases, artificial tears such as polyvinyl alcohol eye drops and sodium vitrate eye drops may be considered. If there is a combination of blepharospasmal dysfunction, blepharospasmal massage can be performed to improve the state of the ocular surface. If combined with corneal epithelial loss, additional eye ointment is needed. Dry eye can also be part of dry syndrome or simply dry eye, and a comprehensive evaluation is performed to observe for the presence of dry syndrome and perform a systematic workup, including autoantibodies and evaluation of other organs. After the diagnosis of dry syndrome is made, the system is targeted in addition to the topical treatment of dry eye.
