HER2 breast cancer has a high rate of recurrence, but not 100% recurrence. The risk of recurrence is related to a number of factors such as stage, molecular typing, and grading. HER2 type breast cancer is defined as sex hormone receptor negative, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) positive, and any Ki67 positivity.The risk of recurrence and metastasis is higher for HER2 type breast cancer than for luminal type; the risk of recurrence is slightly higher for HER2 type breast cancer than for triple-negative breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery, and is similar for both after radical surgery. Patients with HER2 type breast cancer have a higher recurrence rate of about 12-28%. The two peaks of recurrent metastasis are 1.5 to 2 years after surgery and 6 years after surgery. The risk of recurrence is not only related to molecular typing, but also to tumor stage and histological grading. For example, HER2 breast cancer patients without lymph node metastasis are at intermediate risk of recurrence, while those with axillary lymph node metastasis are at high risk of recurrence. HER2 breast cancer is not certain to recur, whether it recurs is also related to whether it receives systematic treatment and other factors, so we suggest patients to adjust their mindset, consult the doctor in time, and follow the doctor’s instructions actively.
