Are kidney cysts in women serious?

The severity of kidney cysts in women cannot be generalized and is related to the type of disease. If it is a simple kidney cyst, the condition is usually mild. If it is polycystic kidney, complications such as uremia and hypertension can occur and may have more serious consequences.
Simple renal cysts are the most common benign lesions in renal diseases. Most patients with small cysts are asymptomatic, hardly affecting renal function, and the chance of malignant changes is very small. When the cysts are large, symptoms such as swelling and pain on the affected side of the abdomen or back, abdominal mass and so on may appear, and timely surgical treatment is needed. After active treatment, the prognosis is good and generally does not affect the patient’s life expectancy.
Polycystic kidney is mostly bilateral, with the development of the disease, the whole body can be covered with cysts of different sizes, causing pain, abdominal mass and renal function damage, and even complications such as uremia. Symptomatic and supportive treatment is available, and dialysis or kidney transplantation is needed in serious cases.
When women develop kidney cysts, they should consult a doctor in time to clarify the type of the disease and carry out targeted treatment.
