It is a well-kept secret that Koreans are keen on plastic surgery, and it is hard to find people who have not had plastic surgery in this country. In recent years, the number of people coming from other countries is also increasing day by day. The attitude of the country towards plastic surgery is basically polarized and has been moderated in recent years. Some people think that the body is given to our parents, no matter how we look, it is a gift from our parents; another part of people think that in this era of freedom and openness, plastic surgery is already a common thing, and we have the right to chase beauty. In this regard, my personal opinion is that if the family can afford it and it does not affect the health, there is nothing wrong with the love of beauty. As a peninsula country, Korea is so advanced in cosmetic surgery technology, and the Korean people are so open to cosmetic surgery. For why Koreans love cosmetic surgery, maybe it is because of these. Koreans are not considered good-looking in appearance, and their common features are relatively large cheekbones, short chin, high nose, slightly deep eye sockets, small eyes, and large round pancake face. In the book “The Cambridge History of China,” the British sociologist Randall Choi was outspoken in calling the Koryo race the ugliest race in East Asia. The unaltered appearance of the Koryo people can be compared to that of the Koreans, who share the same race and language. Since Korea has been a vassal state or colony for a long time, Koreans have a subconscious racial bias and a sense of inferiority, so they pay extra attention to their appearance and even have a “deep-rooted tendency of appearance supremacy”. In Korea, plastic surgery is not only for women, but it is also common for men to have plastic surgery, just not as much as women. The ratio of female employees in public institutions and companies in Korea is very small, with 7.2% of the national civil servants being women and only 2% of the top 10 companies in Korea being women, making Korea one of the developed countries with the lowest social status of women in the world. Korean women usually do not work after marriage, so Korean women are very calm in finding husbands and do not get carried away by love, which is a big difference from what is shown in the overwhelming Korean dramas. Competition is fierce to choose exceptional men as partners, and they have to work on their faces in order to attract attention. Since the outbreak of the financial crisis in the 1990s, the cosmetic surgery industry, which has an inherent advantage, has grown rapidly in order to encourage people to start their own businesses.
