The presence of shortness of breath during activity with dyspnoea, chest tightness and shortness of breath may lead to suspicion of emphysema, but a lung X-ray or CT is also required for diagnosis. High-resolution CT of the chest is more sensitive than plain chest radiographs and plain CT.
