Dextromethorphan works by treating dry cough of various causes.
Dextromethorphan is a non-addictive central cough suppressant drug, through the inhibition of the medulla oblongata cough center to play a cough suppressant effect, cough suppressant effect and codeine equal or slightly stronger. Clinically, it is mainly used for dry cough caused by upper respiratory tract infection, acute or chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pharyngolaryngitis, tuberculosis, etc. It can also be used for irritating dry cough caused by inhalation of irritants.
Adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, drowsiness, agitation, lack of appetite, constipation and nausea may occur after taking dextromethorphan.
Contraindications to dextromethorphan are that dextromethorphan preparations are contraindicated in allergic individuals, in patients taking monoamine oxidase blockers or discontinuing the medication for less than two weeks, during the third trimester of pregnancy, and in lactating women.
It should be noted that dextromethorphan only has an antitussive effect, and those who have not been relieved for 7 days need to consult a physician; asthmatics, phlegm, hepatic and renal insufficiency, pregnant women, people working at heights, and people driving vehicles should be used with caution; children should be used under adult supervision.
