Polycystic ovary syndrome refers to a series of symptoms caused by abnormal menstrual regulation mechanism, such as hirsutism, obesity, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, and bilateral ovarian polycystic enlargement. The main clinical symptom is menstrual dysfunction, which is mainly characterized by scanty menstruation, scanty menstrual flow, or even amenorrhea. A few people also show dribbling menstruation. Due to the lack of ovulation caused by menstrual disorders, patients often experience infertility symptoms. Because of the excess of androgens in the patient’s body, it can manifest as hirsutism. The distribution of hirsutism is masculine, such as increased hair on the upper lip, next to the nipples, around the midline of the abdomen, around the anus, on the limbs, and thick pubic hair. Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the common endocrine disorders, which can be treated by lifestyle modification and medication. The preferred medications to induce ovulation are clomiphene and letrozole, but medication needs to be used according to the doctor’s advice.
