Misconceptions in diabetes treatment

Type 2 diabetes was supposed to be a reversible disease, but due to mistakes in understanding over the years, wrong treatment views have been formed, so much so that we can only control blood sugar, but not cure diabetes, let alone reduce or control its complications.
  1. High blood sugar is not equal to diabetes
Over the years, many doctors and patients have formed a wrong view that hyperglycemia is diabetes and have drawn an equal sign between hyperglycemia and diabetes. This is extremely wrong. Hyperglycemia is only a symptom of diabetes, and it does not represent diabetes. Just like fever, it is a symptom, not a disease. Fever can occur in infectious diseases, tumors, connective tissue diseases, etc. Treatment should not be aimed at simply reducing the fever, which can interfere with the observation of the disease and mislead the treatment, but should clarify the specific disease and treat the disease causing the fever. The treatment of diabetes also cannot be aimed at simply lowering blood glucose, but to clarify the root cause of its production, and then targeted treatment.
2, the main cause of the formation of diabetes is not high blood sugar
So far, mankind has not been able to clarify the root cause of the formation of diabetes, and we do not yet know why diabetes occurs. It is only conjectured that due to the influence of genetic variation and environmental factors, the human body produces insulin resistance, blood glucose utilization decreases, thus appearing hyperglycemia, hyperglycemia is only the result of diabetes, and this result will promote the development of diabetes, thus forming a vicious circle.
Imbalance of energy metabolism is the central link in the occurrence and development of diabetes. The body takes in energy from food to ensure the needs of life activities, and when the energy intake exceeds the physiological needs, the energy is stored in various forms. After excess sugar is taken into the body, some of it is stored in the liver in the form of liver glycogen, while more is stored in the form of fat, thus appearing as obesity and other manifestations. When the body’s energy storage reaches a certain amount, it will mobilize self-regulatory mechanisms, synthesize and release various hormones and cytokines (such as inflammatory factors, etc.) to limit the continued storage of energy, one of which is the decrease in insulin sensitivity, the reduction of sugar conversion, insufficient use of sugar in muscles and organs, inadequate energy supply, in a “starvation state The patient is in a state of “starvation” and shows wasting and weakness. Blood sugar will naturally rise, and high blood sugar will promote the secretion of insulin, entering another vicious circle, which is why diabetic patients have high blood sugar and blood insulin.
3, most of the drugs we currently use to treat diabetes are unable to control the progression of diabetes
Most of the oral medications we currently use to treat diabetes are designed to lower blood glucose by promoting insulin secretion from the pancreas, which is similar to plucking a seedling. The result is that insulin sensitivity decreases further, sugar conversion and utilization decreases further, and the body loses weight. Blood glucose will naturally rise, and high blood glucose will in turn promote insulin secretion, entering another vicious circle, which is detrimental to diabetic patients. In addition, the use of pro-secretory drugs may also promote the failure of pancreatic islet cells, insulin secretion is then reduced, the disease can not be controlled.
4.Insulin is not the savior of diabetes, but may be the accomplice of diabetes
The basic pathology of type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance, and the increase of insulin concentration in the blood after insulin treatment reduces its sensitivity, thus aggravating diabetes. In addition, insulin can inhibit the differentiation and proliferation of Treg cells, inhibit their secretion and release of IL-10 function, and strengthen the immune inflammation; there can also be an immune response, forming a large number of cytokines and reducing the sensitivity of insulin. This is why blood glucose and blood insulin are high in diabetic patients. It is also the reason why blood sugar is not well controlled in diabetic patients. Even if the blood sugar is better controlled, the root cause of the occurrence and development of diabetes is not treated, and the condition cannot be controlled as well, so the patients with good blood control will also have complications of heart, brain, kidney and other important organs. Not only that, hyperinsulinemia may also produce corresponding toxic side effects, promote the formation of tumors (breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer), colitis, and increase the occurrence of coronary heart disease and death.
5, blood sugar is not the lower the better
Because of the reduced sensitivity of insulin, the ability of tissue cells to use blood glucose decreases. Blood glucose is the main source of energy for human tissue cells and needs to be maintained at a certain level, otherwise tissue cells do not get sufficient energy, necrosis and apoptosis occur, which is not conducive to the maintenance and performance of their functions.
Therefore, the reason why we are currently unable to cure diabetes is that we focus all our attention on blood glucose and only pay attention to the toxic effects of high blood glucose and not the toxic effects of insulin. It is impossible to cure type 2 diabetes by leaving out insulin, so it is possible that a treatment that does not increase the level of insulin in the blood is a good one.
  Treatment of type 2 diabetes
With no money in our pockets, we need to cut costs, and with too much inventory we must reduce production and increase sales. The treatment of diabetes lies in reducing the source of blood sugar – eating less – and increasing its utilization – exercise – and increasing the sensitivity of insulin.
The most common misconception in the treatment of diabetes is that by lowering blood glucose through oral medication or insulin injections, you can do without exercise and control your diet.
  1. Controlling diet and increasing exercise is the most basic and probably the best treatment method at present
Starvation therapy can not only lower blood sugar, but also lower blood insulin, increase insulin sensitivity, and reduce the incidence of coronary heart disease and tumor and mortality. Among them, intermittent starvation therapy is the most desirable.
Many diabetic patients take medication while paying very little attention to exercise, on the one hand because some may be too busy at work and have no time to exercise, and more mainly on the other hand because most people have formed a wrong view that they are on medication and have good blood sugar control and can do without exercise. This is the same as a patient with pneumonia using antipyretic drugs after the body temperature has dropped to not use antimicrobials to treat pneumonia, the consequences are difficult to imagine.
Since imbalance of energy metabolism and “excess” energy storage is the central link in the development of diabetes, it is necessary to find ways to restore this balance and break the vicious circle between energy – insulin – high blood sugar. To maintain energy balance, it is necessary to both limit caloric intake and increase its consumption. As society progresses and material life continues to enrich, eating is no longer an issue for most people. On the contrary, more modern people have formed very bad habits, i.e., eat more, eat better, exercise less, accumulate more energy and consume less. As a result, the incidence of obesity, diabetes and other diseases continue to rise. For these diseases, prevention is more important than treatment. By changing the habit of moving the mouth but not the legs, to control the mouth, open the legs. On the basis of diet control, strengthening exercise is the most important, economical and effective way to prevent and treat diabetes and its complications. Through exercise, the body can increase energy consumption, reduce body weight, reduce obesity and increase insulin sensitivity. The combination of diet and exercise makes it possible to keep energy intake and consumption in an optimal dynamic balance, thus achieving the goal of preventing and treating diabetes.
2.The combination of Chinese and Western medicine is a good choice for the treatment of diabetes
Through accurate identification of medicine, Chinese medicine can improve insulin sensitivity, promote blood sugar utilization, protect vascular endothelial cell function, and have unique advantages in preventing diabetic nephropathy and diabetic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.
For patients whose blood sugar does not exceed 8, on the basis of exercise and diet control, the condition can be controlled by simply using traditional Chinese medicine; for patients whose blood sugar is higher and who have to use hypoglycemic drugs or insulin, taking traditional Chinese medicine at the same time can not only reduce the toxic side effects of hypoglycemic drugs and insulin, but also enhance the base efficacy, which has a good effect on preventing complications of organs such as kidney, heart and cerebrovascular in diabetic patients.
