Lianshu can be used as a traditional Chinese medicine, which mainly has the effect of fixing the kidney and astringent essence. It can be used for spermatorrhea, seminal emission, dyspareunia, and frequent urination. Lianshu is sweet, astringent and neutral in nature; it belongs to the heart and kidney meridians, and can be used for the treatment of spermatorrhea and seminal emission in males, dyspareunia and dysuria in females, and frequent urination due to deficiency of the kidneys. Lianshu can be used to treat spermatorrhea and seminal emission caused by kidney deficiency (the kidneys are unable to store sperm due to deficiency of the kidney organs). It is used in conjunction with Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Chinese yam, Poria, Dampy, and Dragon Bone; and also in conjunction with Gorgon fruit, Dragon Bone, and Oyster. For treating frequent urination due to kidney deficiency and bladder loss, it is combined with Poria cocos, powdered dried kudzu, powdered smallpox, roasted licorice and tamarind leaf. For kidney deficiency with subluxation, it can be combined with keel bone, oyster and Sha Yuan Zi. Specific use, it is recommended to be under the guidance of the physician’s diagnosis, not blindly self-medication.
