In general, the best time to treat a child’s synophthalmos is between the ages of six months and two years because the eye muscles are not coordinated within the first six months of life, and physiologic synophthalmos occurs at this time. This is because of the lack of coordination of the periocular muscles that cause strabismus, which can be very severe even after six months of age. This is considered a pathologic factor and requires prompt intervention, mainly surgical treatment, to harmonize the periocular muscles and correct the synechiae, so as to prevent the child from falling behind in vision development due to long-term synechiae.
