Despite the relatively well established Western medical approach to the treatment of heart failure including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, deterioration of heart failure and death are still inevitable. Further search for effective drugs is needed for this reason. Chinese medicine has been developed in China for 5000 years and has a significant therapeutic effect on the symptoms of heart failure. Therefore, it is an inevitable trend to apply the respective advantages of Chinese and Western medicine and combine them to complement each other in the treatment of heart failure. And a lot of progress has been made in research in this area. For example, ginseng and astragalus can greatly replenish the vital energy; Radix et Rhizoma Pseudostellariae and Gui Zhi strengthen the heart and diuresis by warming Yang; Plantago ovata, Semen scabra, Poria ling and Poria can diuretic, Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Rhizoma saffron, Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae improve myocardial ischemia by activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis. These drugs can enhance myocardial contraction and diastolic function by benefiting Qi, warming Yang, activating blood circulation, resolving blood stasis, promoting water retention, and reducing swelling, thereby relieving discomfort, improving quality of life, and prolonging life expectancy. Clinical studies have shown that Chinese herbal medicine can also reduce the dosage of western drugs and the side effects of western drugs in the treatment of heart failure. For example, western diuretics can lead to electrolyte disorders, dehydration, kidney failure and other complications, while Chinese medicine rarely has these side effects. Many of the patients I treated insisted on using Chinese medicine to treat heart failure, and not only achieved better results, but also improved the discomfort outside the heart: such as insomnia, sweating, chest tightness, bitter mouth, and loss of appetite. Applying Chinese medicine to treat heart failure is a very good choice to reduce the deterioration of heart failure, reduce mortality and improve the quality of life!
