The prostate is a reproductive-like organ unique to men and not to women. The prostate gland controls urination and also secretes prostate hormones that make up semen, which is important for male reproductive function. Professionally, women have a periurethral gland similar to the prostate, which secretes plasma mucus that increases female libido and produces pleasure, while stimulating the male prostate. In women, this gland functions similarly to men and is subject to infection, hyperplasia, obstruction, urethral stricture, and other pathologies as in men. It is also seen in middle-aged and older women, especially in middle-aged and older women. Clinically, these conditions are also referred to as female prostate occlusion, female prostate hypertrophy, and vestigial hyperplasia, among other names.
