Why MSG and chicken essence are not recommended to be consumed more by people with kidney disease

MSG is a sodium salt containing fresh flavor, scientifically named monosodium glutamate, also known as monosodium glutamate. It also contains small amounts of salt, water, fat, sugar, iron, phosphorus and other substances. Chicken essence, on the other hand, is a kind of compound seasoning, its basic composition is based on 40% of MSG, adding freshness enhancers, salt, sugar, chicken powder, spices, chicken flavor and other ingredients processed, and more contain a variety of amino acids. Mainly by sodium glutamate, flavor nucleotide disodium salt, edible salt, chicken, chicken bone meal or concentrated extract as the basic raw materials, add flavor (or not add), excipient, after mixing, granulation, drying and become a kind of composite seasoning products. Because of the sodium contained in MSG, eating too much often feel thirsty, causing edema or swelling in patients with kidney disease to worsen. For patients with hypertension, it can lead to increased blood pressure. Therefore, the elderly and people suffering from hypertension, kidney disease, edema and other diseases should especially eat less MSG. Since MSG and chicken essence also contain a small amount of phosphorus, this substance may aggravate the load on the kidneys, kidney disease patients should not eat too much. In addition, when consuming too much MSG, exceeding the body’s metabolic capacity, it will also lead to increased glutamate levels in the blood, limiting the body’s utilization of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and copper. Especially glutamic acid can be combined with zinc in the blood to produce zinc glutamate that can not be utilized to be discharged from the body, resulting in zinc deficiency. In conclusion, when the condition of kidney disease patients is not controlled and stabilized, they should use as little as possible seasoning agents, especially MSG and chicken essence.
