After craniotomy for meningioma, if the tumor is not completely removed, recurrence may occur. If the tumor is completely removed, recurrence is rare in general.
1. Failure to remove all the tumor: Meningioma is located in the skull base, brain stem and other deep layers of the brain, because the blood vessels and nerves of the meningioma can be easily adhered and wrapped up and difficult to be completely removed, and if the tumor is not completely removed, there may be recurrence. Patients can follow the doctor’s instruction for radiation therapy after surgery to reduce the risk of recurrence.
2. Complete resection of tumor: meningiomas occur in the convex side of the brain and can be completely resected in most cases. After complete resection, the tumor usually seldom recurs and the prognosis is good.
After craniotomy for meningioma, patients should pay attention to regular review, and seek medical treatment in time if any discomfort occurs, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
