How long can you take care of yourself with a broken kneecap surgery

It usually takes 8-10 weeks after patellar fracture surgery to allow for normal self-care, specifically after a patellar fracture occurs and is usually treated surgically with either incisional wire fixation or patellar claw fixation. These fixations allow the fractured patella to remain in place and stable, and knee flexion and extension exercises can be started early in the postoperative period to prevent joint stiffness. The stability of the fracture is usually improved at about six weeks, when the knee flexion should be increased. In about eight weeks, the fracture line will be blurred or disappear completely, and in about 10 weeks, the fracture will heal clinically, allowing normal weight-bearing walking and return to normal life and work. Therefore, after patellar fracture surgery, rehabilitation within a short period of time can promote rapid recovery of the fracture and also accelerate the recovery of self-care ability.
