What does BI-RADS mean for breast cysts?

Breast cyst BI-RADS is a breast imaging term. A breast cyst is a mass within the breast that contains fluid and usually appears on ultrasound as a round, well-defined, non-echoic mass that is benign and usually requires no management. BI-RADS stands for Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System, and is a uniform, standardized system for reporting breast ultrasound, mammography and breast MRI. Depending on whether the breast contains a lesion and the likelihood of the lesion being benign or malignant, the inability to perform a complete assessment is referred to as category 0: that is, the assessment is incomplete and requires further imaging evaluation or comparison with previous findings. A complete evaluation is divided into 6 categories: Category 1.1 indicates no abnormal findings on imaging; Category 2.2 indicates benign; Category 3.3 indicates a high likelihood of benignity (≤2% likelihood of malignancy); Category 4.4 indicates suspected malignancy and is categorized as 4A (low suspected malignancy), 4B (moderate suspected malignancy), and 4C (high suspected malignancy); Category 5.5 indicates a high probability of malignancy; Category 6.6 indicates known pathologic biopsy findings of malignancy. It is recommended to follow the doctor’s advice to cooperate with further examination or treatment, do regular breast checkups, and seek timely medical treatment when encountering breast problems.
