The difference between anoscopy and proctoscopy is mainly in the length of the mirror, the structure of the mirror, the scope of the examination, the degree of anesthesia and the preparation before the examination.
1. Mirror length: the length of anoscope is usually no more than 10 centimeters, while the proctoscope is usually about 20 centimeters.
2. Mirror structure: Proctoscopes need to be equipped with a light source, while anoscopes do not.
3. Scope of examination: anoscopy is mainly used for the examination of lesions in the anus, anal canal and end of the rectum, while proctoscopy can probe a little deeper parts of the lesions, such as the entire rectum.
4. Degree of anesthesia: local anesthesia is required before the examination, but the degree of anesthesia for proctoscopy should be heavier than that for anoscopy.
5. Pre-examination preparation: proctoscopy before the need for intestinal preparation, such as clean enema, but anoscopy does not need.
Clinical generally according to the needs of the patient’s specific condition, in order to better check the disease, choose a certain kind of microscopy, and ultimately listen to the clinician’s advice.
