Can a chest ct detect esophageal cancer?

Chest CT can detect some progressive esophageal cancers, which can be manifested as localized esophageal wall thickening or niches. However, for early esophageal cancer, chest CT may not be able to detect it. Moreover, CT is only an imaging examination, which cannot be the basis of clinical diagnosis. For malignant tumors, whether it is esophageal cancer, gastric cancer or other kinds of malignant tumors, the only way to diagnose malignant tumors is to find malignant cells through pathology. Therefore, the diagnosis of esophageal cancer can only be made when malignant cells are detected through esophagoscopy. Early stage esophageal cancer is not obvious in imaging, so chest CT can make imaging judgment for progressive esophagus, but the gold standard of diagnosis can only be made through esophagoscopy and pathology biopsy to find esophageal cancer cells.
