How to treat a psychotic patient who is talking nonsense

Patients with psychosis who are babbling should first undergo the necessary tests to rule out organic causes. If the patient’s psychiatric symptoms are so severe that he or she is unable to cooperate with the treatment or examination, small doses of antipsychotic medications, such as haloperidol or oral olanzapine, may be administered to provide some relief from the psychiatric symptoms to cooperate with the examination and treatment. If the examination reveals an organic cause, or if the babbling is caused by a somatic disease, the organic cause and the somatic disease must be actively treated. Antipsychotic medication can also be administered according to the patient’s needs, but medication must be administered with great care. Observe the patient’s adverse reactions and try not to affect the patient’s physical health. If the babbling is due to an organic cause or physical illness, the antipsychotic medication should be discontinued when the patient’s psychiatric symptoms have significantly resolved or disappeared. If the babbling is caused by mental stimulation, the duration of antipsychotic medication must be long enough to prevent relapse of the disease.
