Can a normal chest X-ray rule out tuberculosis?

Normal chest radiographs do not exclude tuberculosis. The imaging manifestations of tuberculosis are complex and numerous. Clinical judgment should be based on the results of sputum examination, routine x-ray chest radiographs, and the patient’s medical history, and should not be made in a generalized manner. Clinically, tuberculosis can be divided into primary tuberculosis, hematogenous tuberculosis, tuberculous pleurisy and other types. Among them, tuberculous pleurisy may have no obvious abnormal imaging findings, so the normal chest radiograph alone cannot rule out tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, which can be caused by immunocompromise and exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the air. The main symptoms may be coughing up sputum, blood in sputum and so on. If the chest X-ray is normal but accompanied by obvious discomfort, you should go to the hospital in time for further hospital-related examinations to clarify the cause of the disease and actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment.
