Pain scoring criteria

There are many pain scoring criteria, and the one commonly used in clinical practice is the VAS pain scoring scale. The VAS pain scoring scale divides pain into eleven levels from 0-10: 0 represents no pain, and 10 represents maximum pain. Based on the patient’s own feelings, he or she chooses 1 level from the middle of 0-10 to represent his or her pain. A score of 1-3 below three represents relatively mild pain, which the patient can tolerate; a score of 4-6, where the patient’s pain interferes with sleep but can be tolerated; and a score of 7-10, where the patient has progressively more intense pain that cannot be tolerated.
