Does enlarged adenoids require surgery?

Adenoid hypertrophy does not always require surgery, and surgery is required in the presence of snoring, secretory otitis media, adenoid facies, and sinusitis. 1.Indications: (1) Patients with snoring, occlusive rhinorrhea, and open-mouth breathing due to adenoid hypertrophy. (2) Adenoids block the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube, leading to recurrent suppurative otitis media, or secretory otitis media, resulting in hearing loss. (3) Those who have developed “adenoid face” with wasting and developmental disorders. (4) Patients with recurrent inflammation of the nasal cavity and sinuses, or recurrent upper respiratory tract infections. 2. Contraindications: (1) Patients with hematopoietic system diseases or hypocoagulability. (2) Patients with severe hypertension, severe cardiac disease, and those who cannot be fully compensated. (3) Withhold surgery during acute inflammation. (4) Women within 3-5 days before or during menstruation. Patients with enlarged adenoids should go to the hospital for consultation and standardized treatment under the guidance of doctors.
