Is measuring blood pressure lying down the same as sitting down?

Blood pressure values vary slightly depending on the position of the blood pressure measurement, but generally the difference is not significant. Normally, blood pressure is higher when you are sitting than when you are lying down.
Blood pressure measurement positions include sitting position, lying position. The correct sitting position is to choose a suitable chair with the sphygmomanometer at the level of the heart, and the cuff and sphygmomanometer should be in line with the level of the heart when lying down.
Be careful to sit still for half an hour before measuring blood pressure, avoid strenuous activities, avoid drinking strong tea, coffee, etc., so as not to affect the normal value of blood pressure. Blood pressure is easily affected by the patient’s age, position, activity, emotion, environment and other factors. Therefore, to diagnose hypertension, three measurements of systolic blood pressure ≥140mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90mmHg on non-same day are required.
Patients are advised to measure their blood pressure correctly and, if necessary, to go to the clinic and have it done under the guidance of a medical professional.
