Dangers of MRI for babies

Although the word “nuclear” exists in MRI, MRI is a non-radioactive damage detection device, so there is no harm in children undergoing MRI. The word “nuclear” represents the nucleus of the hydrogen atom in the water molecules of the human body, and has nothing to do with nuclear radiation. Nuclear magnetic resonance is to observe the movement of water molecules through artificial magnetic field, through the computer to collect data in the background to form an image, should be avoided to cause panic. The purpose of MRI for children is to explain the development of the infant’s brain and to rule out ischemic-hypoxic encephalopathy or intracranial injury in infants. Especially for infants who are born normal, if the labor is not smooth, the intracranial injury may be caused by squeezing through the birth canal, and timely detection can be cooperated with the treatment without worrying about leaving after-effects. However, a small dose of sedative will be given to the infant during the examination to prevent the infant from moving around, but it will not affect the infant’s health. Older children need to be accompanied by their parents to avoid panic. Magnetic resonance examinations generate a lot of noise, and parents can minimize the noise by inserting cotton into the child’s ears in advance. Therefore, there is no harm in children undergoing MRI.
