Acupuncture for vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis

The author treated 90 cases of vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis with acupuncture at the cervical pinch point with good efficacy in clinical practice, as reported below. 1. General data: Among the 90 cases, 60 were male and 30 were female; the oldest was 75 years old and the youngest was 20 years old; there were 75 cases of osteophytes and 15 cases without osteophytes; the longest duration of the disease was 25 years and the shortest was 1 year. The clinical manifestations mainly included sudden dizziness, nausea and weakness. The diagnosis was confirmed by symptoms and signs X-ray or CT examination. 2, treatment method Take the bilateral cervical pinch points, i.e. the 2nd-6th cervical spine, the lower edge of which is 0.5 inch to the sides respectively, and the bilateral Fengchi points. The acupuncture points were sterilized routinely, and the acupuncture points were pierced vertically with 40mm_–50mm milli-needles according to the body shape, and after the acupuncture was obtained, the acupuncture needle was twisted and twisted to flatten and flatten the diarrhea, and the acupuncture needle was performed once at an interval of 10 minutes, and the acupuncture needle was kept for 30 minutes each time, and 12 times was a course of treatment, with a rest period of three days between courses, and then the next course of treatment was continued. The efficacy was evaluated after 2 courses of treatment. 3, efficacy criteria Refer to the diagnostic criteria of vertebral artery cervical spondylosis proposed by the 2nd National Symposium on Cervical Spondylosis in 1993. Cured: The main symptoms such as dizziness basically disappeared and no recurrence was seen in the follow-up period of six months. Effective: The main symptoms such as dizziness are basically relieved and can work and live normally, but there is still discomfort, or recurrence within six months, which is relieved after treatment. Ineffective: No significant improvement in the main symptoms such as dizziness. 4, treatment results Gao, male, 48 years old, teacher, clinic number 18396, date of visit, June 9, 2003 total cases, 90 cases in this group, cured 84 cases, accounting for 93.3%, apparent effect 5 cases, accounting for 5.6%, invalid 1 accounting for 1.1%, effective rate 98.9%. 5.Typical case Complained of frequent attacks of dizziness in the past five years, occasionally accompanied by nausea and weakness, especially aggravated by low head work and relieved after rest. A week ago, due to long working hours with low head, dizziness occurred again, accompanied by nausea and weakness, which could not be relieved after resting, and then came to our acupuncture department for consultation. Treatment: dredge the meridians, remove the evil and clear the stasis. Treatment, needles bilateral Fengchi points, cervical pinch points, needles with twisting flat complement and flat diarrhea, once a day, after 6 times, dizziness symptoms significantly relieved, no nausea, weakness. All symptoms disappeared after 12 needling sessions. The patient was instructed to take rest, avoid long-term low head work, and move the neck appropriately, and there was no recurrence after one year of follow-up. 6.Experience The occurrence of vertebral artery cervical spondylosis is due to the degeneration of cervical intervertebral discs, the formation of bone redundancy at the edge of the gastric vertebral body, the narrowing of the intervertebral foramen, the displacement injury of the vertebral body and other gastric lesions; on the other hand, it is caused by aseptic inflammation, edema, spasm and inflammation of soft tissues such as the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the cervical collar, resulting in the blood flow of the extracranial segment of the vertebral artery. The method of taking acupuncture points from the spine was mentioned in the Nei Jing Su Wen, and Ge Hong’s method of taking acupuncture points and applying heat from the left and right inch of the spine was clearly recorded by Hua Tuo in the Fang behind the Elbow. The Three Kingdoms’ Zhizhi (Pei’s Commentary) also contains the following: “Moxibustion outside the spine one inch up and down, end straight and evenly adjusted like a lead rope.” This was the name given to the Huatuo Pinnacle Point by later generations. The Chinese Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion locates it as “the first thoracic vertebra to the fifth lumbar vertebra, five minutes below the spinous process of the spine, thirty-four points to the left and right”. Acupuncture at the cervical joints can dispel evil and remove blood stasis, as the needles reach the affected area, effectively relieving soft tissue spasm, effectively dilating local blood vessels, eliminating sterile inflammation and edema stimulation, improving the compliance of the vertebral artery, and increasing cerebral blood supply, thus achieving the effect of strengthening the brain and activating the ligament to dispel blood stasis and promote paralysis.
