Is superficial atrophic gastritis serious or not?

Superficial atrophic gastritis is a kind of atrophic gastritis. Some patients have a better prognosis after standardized treatment, and it is usually less serious, but if the treatment is not carried out in time, it may result in gastric hemorrhage, gastric ulcer, and even cancer.
Superficial atrophic gastritis is a chronic digestive disease, the pathogenesis of this disease is not clear. It is mostly associated with Helicobacter pylori infection, immune factors, dietary factors (e.g. overeating, eating cold or overheated food) and other factors.
After the onset of the disease, patients usually have no obvious symptoms or mild symptoms, with clinical manifestations such as abdominal distension, belching, loss of appetite, acid reflux and epigastric pain. Generally, mild and moderate patients are treated by improving living habits and medication (such as omeprazole, bismuth potassium citrate, domperidone, etc.), the prognosis is better, and they can be transformed into superficial gastritis or be cured.
However, if patients do not receive timely treatment, the condition may continue to develop, resulting in gastric hemorrhage, gastric ulcers, and in severe cases, the risk of cancer.
Patients are advised to keep a good attitude, go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
