What Lipids Really Mean

Lipids is a collective term for lipids contained in plasma, mainly including triglycerides, cholesterol, and low-density and high-density lipoproteins. Lipids are a component of plasma, and under normal conditions there is a certain concentration of lipids in the plasma. What is commonly referred to as dyslipidemia is mainly the deviation of plasma concentrations of triglycerides, cholesterol and LDL from the normal range. Hyperlipidemia is generally diagnosed when serum triglycerides are ≥1.7 mmol/L, serum total cholesterol is ≥5.2 mmol/L or LDL cholesterol is ≥3.4 mmol/L. Dyslipidemia may lead to atherosclerosis, causing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to pay close attention to the blood lipid level in daily life, so that the blood lipid can be kept in the normal range as much as possible.
