Turmeric Powder Usage

Ground into powder form, turmeric is mostly used externally or in pills, with the efficacy of breaking the blood and moving qi, and relieving menstruation and pain. Powdered turmeric can disperse stagnant qi, activate blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis, and is suitable for treating stagnant qi, stagnant blood in the abdomen, blood stasis, and blood-closed carbuncles (a kind of poisonous sores, which are acute purulent diseases occurring on the surface of the body, the limbs, and the internal organs). If treating blood stasis and qi stagnation, stabbing pain in the chest and hypochondrium (a collective term for the chest and ribcage area), it can be combined with Wu Yao (乌药) and Angelica sinensis (当归); if treating amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and post-partum abdominal pain caused by stagnation of qi and blood stagnation (because of blood stasis due to lack of circulation of qi), it can be combined with Safflower and Chuanxiong. It is pungent, dispersing, warming and promoting, can dispel wind-cold and dampness, move stagnation of qi and blood, and is especially good at removing paralyzing pain in the shoulder and arm. Clinically, turmeric tablets are often used internally, decocted; externally, it is often powdered and applied externally. The adverse effects of turmeric are not clear. Blood deficiency without qi and blood stasis should be used with caution, and pregnant women should not use this product.
