A fracture of the tibiofibula does not usually result in permanent lameness for the following reasons. Stable tibiofibular fractures can be fixed with a cast or splint and in most cases can heal successfully, and patients will fully recover their walking function after healing without any impact. Alternatively, for severely displaced tibiofibular fractures, such as comminuted fractures, surgical treatment with incisional internal fixation or external fixation brace needs to be considered. After surgical treatment, the continuity and integrity of the tibiofibula can also be restored, and it usually does not cause a limp state in the lower extremity. It is true that before the fracture heals the affected limb cannot bear weight and needs to support double crutches, but this is only a temporary situation. As the fracture heals, the crutches will gradually be abandoned and normal walking function will be restored. Therefore, patients with tibiofibular fractures do not need to worry.
