Hyperthyroidism with nodules has the potential to become cancerous. Theoretically, any nodule has the possibility of becoming cancerous, but some nodules have a high chance of becoming cancerous and some have a low chance of becoming cancerous. Hyperthyroidism with nodules should be analyzed according to the specific situation. Ultrasonography of the thyroid gland can be performed to evaluate the nodules, assess the possibility of malignancy of the nodules, and decide whether surgery is needed based on the ultrasound results. Surgery for hyperthyroidism with malignant nodules has to go through the necessary preoperative preparations, otherwise the risk of surgery will be high, as hyperthyroidism crisis may occur after surgery, which may endanger the patient’s life. In the case of benign nodules, the thyroid ultrasound can be reviewed periodically, every 3-6 months, depending on the situation. However, active treatment of hyperthyroidism is required, which should be carried out in the endocrinology department and thyroid surgery department of the hospital.
