There are often non-specialist doctors who diagnose hand osteoarthritis as rheumatoid arthritis, and these criteria are issued for clinical reference: Diagnostic criteria for hand osteoarthritis: 1. 1 month of hand pain, soreness, and stiffness most of the time; 2. 2 or more hard tissue hypertrophy in 10 designated hand joints; 3. less than 2 swollen metacarpophalangeal joints; 4. more than 1 swollen distal interphalangeal joint; 5. 10 designated joints in 1 or more deformities. If 1+2+3+4. or 1+2+3+5 are met, osteoarthritis of the hand can be diagnosed. Note: The 10 designated joints include the bilateral 2nd-3rd interphalangeal joints and proximal interphalangeal joints, and the 1st carpometacarpal joint.
