Osteoarthritis and Rehabilitation

The important role of rehabilitation in the prevention, control of the development and treatment of osteoarthritis is being increasingly appreciated. Modern rehabilitation medicine emphasizes an active treatment approach with active exercise training to increase muscle strength and peri-articular tissue strength to stabilize joints, relieve pain, and prevent the development of osteoarthritis and re-injury. Many people often do not understand rehabilitation and focus only on medication. In fact, joint degeneration will limit the body’s activities, and reducing exercise will bring about more serious degenerative joint changes and other diseases of the body. Rehabilitation medicine emphasizes a scientific approach to prevention and treatment, rather than passively waiting for the symptoms of a diseased joint to develop on their own. The rehabilitation physician will develop a highly individualized rehabilitation treatment plan based on a clear diagnosis for each patient’s condition to achieve different treatment goals. In severe cases of osteoarthritis, which require joint R surgery, then post-surgical rehabilitation is even more important to restore function. Therefore, it should be said that rehabilitation is the foundation and key to the overall treatment of osteoarthritis.
