Non-surgical treatment of adenoid hypertrophy

Adenoid hypertrophy is usually seen in children. Excessive hypertrophy can cause nasal congestion, breathlessness, open-mouth breathing or even snoring during sleep, adenoid face, memory loss, malnutrition and other symptoms over time. The diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy can be confirmed by endoscopy or lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs, in addition to the symptoms mentioned above. Adenoids, also known as pharyngeal tonsils, are essentially lymphoid tissue in the submucosa of the nasopharynx. The adenoids are located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the oropharynx, in the area medically known as the nasopharynx, and are orange-flap shaped. They usually develop to their maximum size between the ages of 6 and 7, gradually shrink after the age of 10, and largely disappear by the time they reach adulthood. Most of the treatment options are oral antibiotics, hormones, anti-allergy drugs, nasal spray hormonal anti-allergy drugs, others will recommend decongestants, in addition to the possible combination of Chinese herbal medicine, all of the above treatments are more formal treatment options, doctors have different insights, different levels, the prescribed drugs will vary. After 7 to 15 days of treatment, most doctors will recommend that parents consider surgery. For shorter adenoid hypertrophy, most of them can be cured after the above-mentioned conventional treatment. For longer adenoid hypertrophy, it is difficult to be cured by the above-mentioned conventional treatment plan. Most of the regular and responsible otolaryngologists in the country will recommend surgery, which mostly uses radiofrequency ablation or sinus cutting drill to remove the enlarged adenoids under endoscopic surveillance. The surgical removal method of treating adenoid hypertrophy is currently recognized as a method with good efficacy and high cure rate.
