Bachar G from Israel recently published an interesting article in Eur J Radiol. He reviewed 292 cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma and compared preoperative ultrasound measurements for size and pathological measurements for size. The results showed that the average ultrasound measurement was 2.19 ± 1.15 cm and the average pathological measurement was 1.69 ± 1.09 cm. The difference between ultrasound and pathological measurements was more significant for tumors larger than 1.5 cm. Therefore, the authors reminded the clinicians that the differences between ultrasound and pathological measurements should be taken into account in clinical treatment.
