Don’t blindly take local remedies and prescriptions. Chinese medicine formulas that can produce fluids and quench thirst include Jade Liquid Soup, Bamboo Leaf Gypsum Soup, and Thirst Elimination Formula.
1. Jade Liquid Soup consists of raw yam, raw astragalus, hen’s insides gold, schizandra, Zhi Mu, Pueraria Mirifica, and smallpox pollen. It is effective in benefiting qi and nourishing yin, consolidating the kidney and promoting the production of fluid. It is mainly used for treating thirst due to deficiency of Qi and Yin. Symptoms such as dry mouth and thirst, insatiable thirst for drinking water, drowsiness and shortness of breath, frequent and profuse urination, or turbid urination may be seen.

2. Bamboo Leaf Gypsum Soup is composed of Gypsum, Bamboo Leaf, Maimendong, Japonica Rice and Semixia. It is effective in clearing away heat and promoting generation of body fluid, benefiting Qi and harmonizing the stomach. It is mainly used in treating warm disease (fever caused by wind-cold), typhoid fever (fever caused by cold), summer disease with residual heat not yet cleared and qi and yin injuries, which can be seen as heat and sweat, heartburn and chest tightness, dry mouth with desire to drink, rebellious qi and wanting to vomit, or deficiency annoyance and insomnia (insomnia caused by annoyance due to deficiency heat in the body), etc. It can be used in treating the following diseases: (1) fever, (2) fever, (3) fever and (4) insomnia.
The adverse reactions and contraindications of this formula are not clear. However, this formula should not be used if the heat disease is prevalent and the evil is real, the heat has not been reduced, and the qi and yin have not been injured; and this formula is cool and moist, so if there is phlegm-dampness within the body, or if there is deficiency of yang in the body with fever, it should be avoided.
3. This formula is composed of Rhizoma Coptidis, smallpox pollen, cow’s milk, lotus root juice, Shengdi juice, ginger juice and honey. It is effective in clearing heat and promoting generation of body fluid. It is mainly used in treating lung-heat and fluid-injury syndrome of the upper elimination of thirst (there is heat in the lungs, which continuously depletes the body’s fluid).
