Definition: Inflammatory lesions that occur in the pulp tissue of the teeth. The common term “dew nerve” usually refers to pulpitis.
High incidence: Pulpitis is a relatively common dental disease with pain as the main symptom, and more than half of the patients with toothache treated in dental clinics are suffering from pulpitis, which is the most frequent and common disease in the oral cavity.
Causes: Pulpitis is mainly caused by the infection from the tooth body. Pulpitis can be triggered by dental hard tissue diseases such as worm teeth (caries) that cannot be controlled and treated effectively in a timely manner.
If the hard tissue disease such as worm teeth is not treated in time, and the disease continues to penetrate deeper and reaches the soft tissue pulp, pain will occur, i.e. pulpitis.
Pain characteristics: Intense and unbearable pain that often makes the patient restless and difficult to eat and drink. As the saying goes, “toothache is not a disease, but pain really kills” refers to this disease process. There are four main characteristics of toothache.
1. pain that is not triggered by any cause and can occur on its own.
2, paroxysmal pain, pain for a while, good for a while, severe pain can last.
3.The pain is aggravated after being stimulated by hot or cold, biting something, etc.
4.The pain increases at night. Seriously affects sleep.
Course of disease: There are two types of pulpitis: acute and chronic pulpitis.
Acute attacks are characterized by the four major pain features mentioned above.
Chronic pulpitis may be only slightly painful when encountering hot or cold and biting something, and it can be tolerated, some people can endure for half a year. It is recommended that this should be treated, and if not treated it may turn into acute pulpitis and severe pain will occur.
Difference from worm teeth.
A worm’s tooth is just a hole in the tooth and does not destroy the pulp. The usual manifestations are: sometimes food will be stuffed into the cavity when eating, especially cold or hot food stimulation will be a little painful, will not hurt very much by itself, and will not hurt at night.
Pulpitis is a slight stimulation will have a heavier pain, can not encounter cool and hot food. The pain is severe during acute attacks.
Typical cases
1. Acute attack: persistent pain for a day, or pain at night for a night, non-stop pain, taking anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers are ineffective. Come to the clinic with a painful expression and unbearable pain. Individuals will use pepper, garlic, white wine, toothpaste and other pain relief, but they are useless.
2. Chronic inflammation: The history of the disease is several months. There is a tooth or one side of the tooth dare not use, bite to a particular place pain, eat to cold and hot will be painful, do not dare to brush teeth with cold water, if the day is cold when you meet the wind teeth will also hurt. This period of pain is so bad that it will hurt even without stimulating it, and you will usually see a doctor in this case.
Treatment.
It is necessary to go to the dentistry department for endodontic treatment, which is what we usually call “nerve killing”.
The course of treatment is divided into 3-4 times. People feel that a dental visit to the dental department is not complete and requires several visits, usually for endodontic treatment, and 80% of our work is usually in endodontic treatment.
There are several methods of endodontic treatment, the most effective and most used at this stage is root canal treatment. The pulp tissue (nerve) inside the tooth is inside the root canal surrounded by hard tissue, and the conventional treatment procedure is: 1. kill the pulp; 2. remove the killed pulp and diseased tissue to make it clean and sterile, at which point the root canal becomes a cavity; 3. fill the cavity tightly with sterile, therapeutic material, and then fill the cavity. This will require 3-4 visits for a course of treatment.
The principle of painless treatment.
Many people think that it will be painful when the tooth is drilled, and others think that they cannot see the tooth when it is in acute pain and must endure it until it is not painful, which is actually wrong.
1, acute pain must come to see, after the doctor’s emergency treatment soon no pain, and even some people’s teeth once drilled, still lying in the dental chair is not painful.
2, now there is a very good effect of anesthesia, to see the teeth on the anesthetic, is generally not feel the pain at all, the drilling of the tooth is not any problem.
