What is the recovery process for an Achilles tendon rupture

The process of recovering from an Achilles tendon rupture involves determining the severity of the rupture and developing a method of treatment. If the severity of the rupture is high, surgery will be required to promote healing of the ruptured Achilles tendon. After surgery, the patient is immobilized in a cast, which is usually removed in about three weeks, and the ankle is then immobilized in a brace to protect it. The ankle can be released after half a month of immobilization with a brace, but the patient should not move too early and the activity should not be too strenuous so as to prevent the patient from rupturing the tendon again. It is recommended that muscle exercises be performed 3 to 4 months after surgery to restore the normal function of the Achilles tendon.
