There is no such thing as the best combination for Huperzia, and the combination of drugs should be decided according to the needs of the patient’s condition. Houpu is bitter, pungent and warm in nature. It belongs to the spleen, stomach, lung and large intestine meridians. It can dry dampness and eliminate phlegm, lower the qi and remove fullness (enable the qi to go downward to reduce the discomfort of fullness). It is used for treating dampness stagnation, vomiting and diarrhea in the epigastric region, food stagnation (accumulation of food in the stomach due to indigestion), stagnation of qi, constipation due to abdominal distension, phlegm (pathological product of impaired metabolism of water), and wheezing and coughing. Hau Pu with Ephedra can make the lung qi to be declared and purified. It is suitable for coughing with phlegm; thick park with rhubarb can enhance the function of diarrhea and elimination of stagnation. Suitable for abdominal distension and constipation; thick Park with Citrus aurantium is more effective in dispersing fullness. It is suitable for gas stagnation and food accumulation, epigastric (abdominal) distension and fullness. Houpu with hawthorn can increase the power of Qi circulation and food elimination. It is suitable for belching and swallowing acid, epigastric distension and pain, plumpness (stomach distension and discomfort) and so on. Huperzia with Semixia can move qi to relieve stagnation and dissolve phlegm to disperse lumps and knots. It is suitable for the syndrome of plum nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal hypersensitivity) which is characterized by seven emotions and phlegm-qi obstruction. Huperzia with almonds has the effect of promoting the lungs and lowering qi, eliminating phlegm and stopping wheezing. It is suitable for coughing and retching; and thick park with suzi can eliminate phlegm and salivation, and calm asthma and cough. It is suitable for those who have phlegm and drink obstructing the lung, and the lung qi is not descending, coughing and chest tightness. Houpu is hard, warm and dry, easy to consume gas and injure the fluid, so it is used with caution for people with gas deficiency and fluid deficiency and pregnant women. It is recommended that patients use the drug under the guidance of a doctor, do not take the drug on their own, or for the use of inter-drug combinations.
